UCI chemist wins top awardBill Evans will receive the 2005 Award in Inorganic Chemistry for groundbreaking work that helped lead to better ways to make synthetic rubber.August 31, 2004 By Gary Robbins Bill Evans, a veteran inorganic chemist at the University of California, Irvine, will receive the highest award the American Chemical Society confers in his field. Evans will receive the 2005 Award in Inorganic Chemistry for groundbreaking work in Ianthanide elements that helped lead to better ways to make synthetic rubber, the ACS said today. Evans said today that his group "does fundamental research (that is) designed to find new uses for these metals that provide the red color to color TV and are critical components in energy-efficient light bulbs and automobile exhaust catalysts." The ACS - the best-known chemistry association in the country - will present its award to Evans next spring in San Diego.
