UCI chemists to be honored

By Gary Robbins

September 10, 2003

University of California, Irvine, researchers Barbara Finlayson-Pitts and John Hemminger will be honored by the American Chemical Society for their long-term contributions to chemistry.

Among other things, Finlayson-Pitts has influenced air-quality standards through her insights about how sea salts contribute to air pollution in coastal regions.

Hemminger's analysis of chemical reactions in molecules and other small structures has advanced the field of nanotechnology.

ACS will acknowledge this work by giving Hemminger and Finlayson-Pitts separate awards during a ceremony being held in Anaheim in late March.
