UCI chancellor chooses to stayBy Gary Robbins February 20, 2003 University of California, Irvine, Chancellor Ralph Cicerone doesn't want his name submitted as a possible replacement for UC President Richard Atkinson, who will step down in October. Several UCI officials had expressed interest in urging a search committee to select Cicerone to head the nine-campus system. Cicerone said in an E-mail to the campus community. "In the last couple of years, representatives of other renowned universities have presented similarly prestigious and tempting opportunities. I responded then as I do now - I respectfully decline because I am happy to be Chancellor of UC Irvine." The University of Michigan was among those institutions.
