Chemistry Professor Earns Award For Lasers

A UC Irvine professor has received the 2002 Richard C. Tolman medal, awarded to Southern California residents for outstanding contributions to chemistry in research and leadership.

Peter Rentzepis, who holds a UC presidential chair, won the medal for his development of ultra-fast laser techniques that have helped revoutionize many areas of science. The Tolman medal is the most prestigious for Southern California chemists. Among its recipients are six Nobel laureates.
