Scientific advances have coincided with some of the greatest challenges to our society. It takes curiosity, training, and resources to move beyond the current boundaries of knowledge, which is essential to address these threats to civil society and our well-being.

For the past two decades, the Department of Earth System Science (ESS) at UC Irvine has engaged the expertise and imagination of leading faculty, researchers and graduate students in groundbreaking research and teaching. As we reach the milestone of 20 years of science, we will explore grand challenges of the past and future, and the science that goes with them. By invitation only. Please check back for upcoming conference agenda.
