The program supports unusually creative, high-risk / high-reward interdisciplinary projects, and is open to all NSF-supported areas of science,
engineering, and education research. Only internal merit review is required. Before writing and submitting a CREATIV proposal, the PI must obtain written authorization to submit a proposal from NSF program directors from at least two intellectually distinct divisions or programs.

DEADLINE: Proposals for support in FY 2012 may be submitted at any time between December 1, 2011, and June 15, 2012.

FUNDS: Awards offer up to $800,000 for two co-funding programs, and up to $1 million for three or more co-funding programs. The project period is five years.
